Waller Creek Delta at Waterloo Greenway

Waller Creek Delta at Waterloo Greenway

Upon completion of the Waller Creek Corridor Framework Plan, MVVA began the reconstruction of Waller Creek in downtown Austin, Texas. The Waller Creek Delta is one end of a system of public spaces, continuous trails, and restored habitat that reaches 1.5 miles from Lady Bird Lake to the redesigned Waterloo Park, ultimately connecting to the University of Texas campus.

While the backbone of the project is the reconstruction of the creek channel, its urban context necessitates an approach that equally emphasizes enhancing pedestrian connections, optimizing aging infrastructure, and calibrating the design with plans for downtown development.

As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, Austin is continuously under threat of over-development that shrinks the public realm. The Waller Creek Delta’s role as both public amenity and city infrastructure reinforces the importance of great public spaces adapting to the needs of the city and the people.
